Woodlot management is work carried out in order to enhance the value(s) of a woodlot to it's owner(s).
A woodlot can be managed to sustainably produce products such as firewood, lumber, building logs, fence posts, wild foods/herbs, and decorative materials. Most woodlots exist for more than just one purpose. Recreational and wildlife use can also be enhanced through management. All of these goals can be managed for together or individually.
Some common management activities which are undertaken by woodlot managers include; planning, taking inventory, access trail establishment, scarification to promote natural regeneration, planting various tree and shrub species, weeding, releasing, pruning, harvesting, etc.
